The Irish Archaeology Field School is a Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) Certified Field School, and Ireland’s leading provider of university accredited, site based archaeological research and training. Our mission is to provide an opportunity for students of archaeology and anthropology to experience at first hand archaeological excavation in a teaching environment.
Excavations are undertaken within an established research framework led by a team of highly qualified and experienced archaeologists.
Accreditation
Accreditation is provided where students require credits towards a Third Level Qualification. Accreditation is provided for by our academic partners, Dundalk Institute of Technology. For further information see Modules.

The excavation directors are supported by a number of highly trained and enthusiastic supervisors and a team of specialists covering everything from human and animal osteoarchaeology to geology to architectural heritage.

The field school is closely linked to its sister company, CRDS Ltd Archaeological & Historical Consultants. Established in 1997, CRDS is a multi-award winning company widely acknowledged as a leading provider of a wide range of cultural heritage consultancy services. These include all levels of archaeological survey and assessment, from environmental impact studies to pre-development testing and monitoring, to large scale excavation. Specialist areas of expertise within the company include: medieval architecture, architectural survey and recording, EDM/GPS surveying, archaeogeophysical investigations, underwater archaeology, and geology.Over the past ten years we have excavated over 50 highly significant archaeological sites including the medieval settlement at Raystown, County Meath, the prehistoric trackway complex at Edercloon, County Longford, and the Iron Age Hillfort at Rahally, County Galway. |
